Everyone who plays poker tries to mislead their opponents. That’s the name of the game after all, to outwit your opponent into making a mistake or misjudgment. The internet game affords players opportunities to deceive opponents in ways that live games never could. One of these methods is to fake your identity.
When you join a poker room you can usually post a picture of yourself on the software. Your "avatar" can be anything you want it to be. So some crafty players use this to appear to be something that they’re not. If the right opponent forms an opinion about that player, based on their avatar, it could give an advantage to the player posing to be something they’re not.
The most common one is the time-tested hot girl picture. With a picture of an attractive woman as your avatar, you can get lots of opponents off their game. If you flirt with players, and if they like the picture, you will get breaks in hands and save some bets. No guy wants the pretty girl to hate him, so he’ll let the small head do the thinking and won’t re-raise you on the river, or won’t try to steal your blinds every round.
