Rebuys and Add Ons
April 29 2008
When playing in a re-buy tournament you should know a couple of things. These are not tournaments you should play with just one buy-in. The scope of the tournament is very different in the early stages, and the aggression level of the re-buy portion must be considered. With so much more money coming into the game, it’s important to double up and stay with the pack.
Players will be going all-in almost every hand, so having a premium hand early in a re-buy tournament is a great opportunity to double or triple through, so you shouldn’t hold back. If you bring only one buy-in you’ll be playing scared, and you’ll find yourself with the same chips you started with, at a table full of players with huge stacks. So doubling through early on is important because you will stay with the pack of elevating stacks. Doubling through will also afford you the ability to take on more aggressive short stacks that are trying to do the same thing.
The early stages of a re-buy tournament are a battle of races and all-ins. Get in there and battle until the re-buy portion of the tournament is over; if you bust out you can just buy-in again. A good rule of thumb is to bring at least three re-buys.
