No matter how good a poker player you think you are, there’s always room for improvement and always ways in which you can better your game. The problem with improving or fixing your game is that first you have to find out where it’s broken.
One of the simplest ways to do this is by taking notes and keeping records of your play. You can do this on your own, or you can make it a lot easier on yourself by getting some kind of poker tracking software that can help identify the holes in your game for you.
Most players know how to makes notes and records on their games, but they don’t know what to look for in these notes to improve their game. One of the best places to start is to look at your losses. More specifically, look for patterns in your losses.
Do you end up chasing bad draws on most of your big losses? Do you bet too much or too little in certain situations? Are you overvaluing aces or suited cards? These are some of the more common mistakes that beginners make without even knowing it.
Finding out what hands and in what betting situations you lose the most money is essential to improving your play and turning a profit in poker. If you continue to make the same mistakes repeatedly, your game and your bankroll will suffer because of it.
