7 Card Stud Hi Lo,
Betting Strategy
July 30 2008
Scooping the pot is a crucial moment in the game of 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo. These moments are the best-case scenario for you, because it means that you’ve won both the low-hand and high-hand halves of the pot. It’s possible to have both winning hands because you can use different cards for each hand.
If you had 2c-4c and drew 6c-Ac-3c-Kh-Qh, you will have a very good low hand (A-2-3-4-6) and an ace-high flush. Both these hands could be the best hand for low and high, and if they are, you scoop all the chips.
Always consider scoop outs when deciding to call bets. You may have outs to the low hand, or to the high hand, but when you have outs to scoop the pot you should stay in the hand, even when the betting gets big. Just one hand where you scoop the pot can make a big difference in how you place in a tournament, or how much you make in a grinding session.
